Genereux, J. & Genereux, M. (1997). Proposed iron range OHV recreation area at Gilbert, Minnesota: Social and economic planning studies. Trails and waterways division, Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.

Abstract

Survey of residents living within 1 mile of the proposed boundaries, to analyze the likely economic/revenue impacts of such a park. Respondent’s perceptions of the existing conditions in the area and their perceptions of OHV were queried. Resident’s perceptions of the impacts from the proposed park such as trespassing, dust, strangers, litter, trust in DNR, rules enforcement, speeding vehicles, accidents, and cost to local government, were rated according to the levels of concern (big, small, not a concern). A large percentage of respondents owned an OHV and were already using the proposed area for recreation purposes (in trespass). Includes questions about the tolerance of different people to various kinds of noise.
