Management - Planning, design, & development (Facilities, signage, & visitor information)

Trails and Wildlife Task Force, Colorado State Parks, & Hellmund Associates. (1998). Planning trails with wildlife in mind: A handbook for trail planners. Denver, CO: Colorado State Parks.

Abstract

Not OHV-specific, this handbook offers basic discussions of trail siting and development in greenways, flood control developments, and various suburban and rural interface parks, in which the trail may affect existing limits to wildlife range and habitat. Discusses ways that trails and observation sites manage the humans. Provides a “checklist matrix” for siting and developing trails for habitat improvement and/or wildlife management. Recurring theme for protecting wildlife is not what the humans are doing but whether it is reliably predictable to the wildlife. One chapter is devoted to case studies. Well indexed. Includes extensive citations for every chapter.
