Off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation's $3 billion economic impact in California & a profile of OHV users: A family affair. (1993-1994). Sacramento, CA: Off-highway Motor Vehicle Recreation Division of California Department of State Parks and Recreation.

Abstract

Thumbnail of results: 14.2% of all Californians participate in OHV recreation.
These OHV users spent 1.2 billion on vehicles, equipment, safety gear, maintenance, tow vehicles, lodging, and fuel for recreational riding trips as well as local, regional, national and international competitions that were hosted in the state. When economic multipliers were factored in, an additional 1.6 billion in personal income was generated statewide by OHV recreation. In addition to this revenue, the state OHV division's $25 million annual budget is funded 100% by gas taxes collected via OHV registration, which in turn supports the $3 billion dollar industry that this report details.
