Management - Operations & maintenance

Pierce, T. R. (1987). Management of off-road vehicles in the upper Tellico river area.

Abstract

Unmanaged ORV traffic is damaging National Forests. A passive approach by land managers has contributed to unchecked growth of this sport. Users have utilized whatever road/trail conditions that existed when they visited an area. This has led to varying degrees of recreational
experiences, but with mounting resentment by managers/environmentalists. A consensus management approach to gain user ideas/support coupled with volunteer efforts can be utilized to improve recreation experience.
