Management - Use limits & carrying capacities Feeny, D., Berkes, F., Mccay, B. J., & Acheson, J. M. (1990). The
tragedy of the commons: Twenty-two years later. Human
Ecology, 18(1), 10. An examination of the evidence supporting and refuting the thinking in
Hardin's "Tragedy of the Commons," which states that all resources
held in common are over-exploited and inevitably degraded. The evidence
does not support this inevitability; upon realizing such degradation,
users change their behavior through a variety of institutional or casual
arrangements which do successfully sustain the resource. Includes an unusual
bibliography leading to this conclusion, not OHV specific.
