Human dimensions - Recreation OHV Users

Jim, C. (1989). Visitor management in recreation areas. Environmental Conservation., 16(1), 19-32.

Abstract

A discussion of various ways to prevent the negative effects of over-use. Uses existing recreation management research of visitor decisions such as trip duration, difficulty, and desired environment to suggest ways to disperse the use into non-damaging use patterns. Examines various management scenarios: signs and maps to direct users into a managed pattern, restricting admission, lotteries, and various rationing/pricing concepts. Includes a bibliography.
