Peak and Prairie. Rocky Mountain Chapter of the Sierra Club. This article discusses some of the impacts of trails on the environment. Trails introduce habitat fragmentation and the edge effect. Trails also aid in the introduction of exotic plant and animal species, as well as the increase in pollution by OHV’s and existing trails and by avoiding sensitive areas.
