Abstract

Residential-industrial noise data. Emphasis on neighborhood, traffic, aircraft noise. Establishes “typical daily noise exposure patterns.” Details physiological aspects of hearing, defines “threshold of pain” and the duration of noise levels that cause permanent hearing loss. Examines physiological effects, social cost, economic loss, performance interference, sleep disturbance, and a range of subjective responses to noise exposures in varying intensities. Well-indexed, and includes an extensive bibliography.
