Environmental Impact - Sound

Harrison, R. T. (1973). Development of a noise standard for the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. USDA Forestry Service.

Abstract

An attempt to establish a numerical noise level and a standard test method for enforcement purposes. The primary vehicles targeted were dune buggies. The technical team decided upon 85dba at 50 feet. The procedure that the team developed required extensive compensation for variables in the test situation such as distance, terrain, wind, vehicle speeds, and the limitations of personnel technical expertise.
