Abstract

Results of a joint project between USDA Forest Service San Dimas Technology and Development Center and Motorcycle Industry Council. Includes description of the EPA method and of the SAE method for measuring sound levels, the instruments and procedures for this project, and the test results. Conclusions: a, that exhaust is no longer always the dominant noise source; b, there is no linear correlation between the results obtained from the two test methods, and c, the SAE J1287 (20-inch stationary) remains the best test for enforcement purposes.
