Environmental Impact - Wildlife/Vegetation Effects Lawson, D. E. (1986). Response of permafrost
terrain to disturbance. Arctic and Alpine Research 18(1):
1-17. Not OHV specific. Examination of 10 abandoned drill sites after 30 years. The original disturbance was from semi-permanent camps, compaction by storage sites, tractors, rubber-tire vehicles, and footpaths. The extent of recovery is not keyed to the type of original disturbance, rather, it is keyed to the properties of the perennially frozen sediment and to the altered rates of thawing and freezing caused by the original disturbance. The researcher makes no distinctions between the types of disturbances; whether this is because it made no difference, or because after 30 years no one knew, is not evident in the research. Includes bibliography, mainly of cold region soil issues and geomechanical literature.
