Environmental Impact - Soil/water effects

Nordstrom, K.F., & Lotstein, E.L. (1989). Perspectives on resource use of dynamic coastal dunes. The American Geographical Society of New York.

Abstract

Discussion of dunes as a dynamic landform with human use as an agent of change. Examples discussed are consumptive uses such as sand extraction and water extraction, and recreational uses such as bathing and ORV use. Examines the difficulty of restoring the natural features of the dune system upon realization that the allowed use has destroyed it. Recommends a more restrictive management regime first, which can be questioned later but would preclude the need for restoration attempts after it is too late. Extensively footnoted, no bibliography.
