Environmental Impact - Soil/water effects

Carlson, J., Christansen, C., & Elliott, G. (1990). Dru Barner Trail Ride Water Quality Monitoring Plan. Rock Creek Watershed Georgetown Ranger District.

Abstract

The objective of this monitoring plan is to determine if water quality in Rock Creek is affected by recreational use of stream crossings. Water quality is measured as suspended sediment concentration and turbidity. From this sampling it appears that concentrated use of the motorcycle enduro did not introduce large amounts of suspended sediment into the stream. The trail ride sampling indicated that there was no substantial disturbance to the creek. Horses introduced only a little sediment.
