Abstract

Results and tentative analysis of the effects of ATV use in Mt Blue State Park after one year of a three year study. The experiment included a control plot of similar ecology as the treated plot, and a "statistical reversal" to isolate effects that are directly attributable to ATV's. After one year no difference could be found between the ATV treated area and the control area, other than soil compaction on the trail in use. Provides detailed descriptions of the methodology used to monitor the bird and deer populations and to measure soil erosion and compaction. Includes a bibliography.
