Environmental Impact - Inventorying & monitoring methods

Vollmer, A. T., Maza, B. G., Medica, P. A., Turner, F. B., & Bamberg, S.A. (1976). The impact of off-road vehicles on a desert ecosystem. Journal of Environmental Management, 1.(2), 115-129.

Abstract

The effects of operating a 4WD truck in an area of Mojave Desert were evaluated. A truck was driven over the same .9km track 21 times between Nov. 73 and May 74. The vehicle was also driven randomly over another area 17 times during this Period. Severity of damage to-shrubs was directly related to intensity of driving in the area. Numbers/kinds of rodents in the Control and studied area were similar. Estimates and counts of several lizard species indicated, with one exception, no impact.
